Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
Overview
US Conec is seeking a highly skilled Machining Engineer to join our precision tooling team. In this role, you will work with EDM machinery, high precision grinding machines and single point diamond turning (SPDT) machines. The machining operation is to produce injection mold components with tolerances down to the sub-micron and nanometer level. You will work with hard metals like carbide and tool steels, collaborating with design and metrology teams to ensure dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and tooling reliability across the production lifecycle.
Responsibilities- Program, set up, and operate the machinery to achieve ≤±1 µm tolerances.
- Select grinding wheels, electrodes, wire types, and flushing strategies to optimize surface finish and cycle time.
- Create and refine CAM programs using ESPRIT, G-code and 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor, Nano Cam).
- Develop thermal stability processes including fixture design and temperature compensation.
- Collaborate with mold and die designers to adjust prints for true position and shrinkage.
- Build and qualify grinding wheels, electrodes and fixtures for precision machining.
- Perform final inspections using CMM, laser micrometers, air gauges, and profilometers.
- Implement SPC/CPK, corrective actions, and standard work procedures.
- Lead DOE and Kaizen initiatives to improve tolerance capability and reduce machining time.
- Support toolroom operations for new builds, ECNs, and urgent repairs.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
- 3–7+ years of experience in precision wire EDM and grinding for mold/die or high-accuracy parts.
- Proven ability to hold ≤±1 µm features; experience with sub-micron/nanometer-class positioning.
- Expertise in machining hard metals (e.g., carbide, H13, M1, PM steels).
- Proficiency in CAM programming, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Hands-on experience with metrology tools including CMM and laser micrometry.
- Ability to read mold/tooling drawings and understand injection molding components.
- Knowledge of fixture design, thermal management, and precision work holding.
- Preferred:
Moldflow analysis, sinker EDM, and basic CNC milling/grinding.
- Competitive compensation based on experience and precision skill level
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans
- Paid time off and holidays to support work-life balance
- 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer match
- A collaborative, innovation-driven culture
- Opportunities for cross-training and advancement
- Inclusive workplace with reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals
