The Mechanical Engineer will serve as a key mechanical design resource supporting plant engineering activities. This role focuses on designing, improving, and integrating mechanical systems for fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment. The position involves hands-on project execution, collaboration with cross‑functional teams, and direct support of production operations.
Key Responsibilities- Design mechanical assemblies, tooling, and equipment modifications using 3D CAD software (Inventor preferred; AutoCAD as needed)
- Revise and maintain mechanical drawings in accordance with drafting standards and GD&T
- Source components, obtain vendor quotes, and manage part procurement
- Develop and execute experimental plans to validate mechanical designs
- Assemble or oversee assembly of mechanical systems, including hands‑on involvement
- Debug and resolve mechanical issues during equipment integration and production startup
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, process, and IT engineering teams
- Support operations through documentation updates and training assistance
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design and integration
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (Inventor or similar), Vault, and AutoCAD
- Strong knowledge of drafting standards and GD&T
- Experience working with machine shops and equipment vendors
- Hands‑on troubleshooting experience with mechanical systems (pneumatics, flow control, cooling systems, etc.)
- Experience supporting manufacturing equipment repair, maintenance, and installation
- Ability to lead and coordinate mechanics and electricians during equipment builds
- Experience with plastic extrusion or continuous manufacturing processes
- Electrical troubleshooting knowledge (low/medium voltage, motion control, PLCs, temperature control systems)
- Working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel, PI, or PowerBI
