Teacher, elementary grade 4
JOB SUMMARY:
Hickory Day School, the only non-sectarian, independent school in Catawba County, North Carolina, is seeking qualified candidates to offer the best in cutting-edge instruction to its students. This professional will work with all members of the school community to develop effective, differentiated learning for 4th-grade students. Instruction supports and reinforces the International Baccalaureate curriculum of the school. S/he reports to the Head of School.
S/he works collaboratively with all members of the faculty and staff to develop curricula that are horizontally and vertically integrated with all elements of the school, including co-curricular instruction in visual arts, wellness/fitness, Spanish, technology, and theater/music. Most importantly, this instructor is a team player who enjoys collaborative work.

START DATE:
August 2026
- Support differentiated learning for 4th-grade students in alignment with the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop horizontally and vertically integrated curricula, including co-curricular instruction in visual arts, wellness/fitness, Spanish, technology, and theater/music.
- Participate in all faculty/staff meetings, teacher work days, school events, student assessment, weekly classroom communications, and student supervision.
- Maintain professional demeanor and decorum at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Lead or sponsor an extracurricular/athletic club or squad as appropriate.
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in elementary education or its equivalent;
North Carolina (or other state) teacher certification is highly desired. - Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school community.
- Love of children and education with the ability to engage primary-age children in a caring, compassionate, and supportive manner.
- Willingness to support the beliefs and practices of the International Baccalaureate Organization and to receive training in its principles.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in education and related fields.
- Ability to create meaningful and challenging lessons that reinforce classroom curricula and expand students’ horizons and global perspectives.
- Passion for fostering differentiated learning and meeting students at their current level to motivate achievement.
- Experience with International Baccalaureate PYP is desirable.
- Ability to coach an athletic team or sponsor an extracurricular club is desirable.
Salary Range:
Starting at $36K and upwards depending on education, experience, and qualifications. Any job offer is contingent upon a clean background check.
