Role OverviewDue to organic growth and expansion as a result of ongoing acquisitions, we are seeking a Private Client Tax Manager to join our Private Client team.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge and be able to provide strategic commercial advice to clients on tax planning and risk management. You will play a key role in managing client relationships, assisting and leading projects, and contributing to the growth of our private client tax practice.
The role entails managing all day-to-day aspects of a portfolio of private clients and, although focused on compliance responsibilities, there will also be opportunities to be involved with leading and supporting tax advisory work.
Key Responsibilities Management- Act as principal manager contact for a portfolio of clients within the Private Client Team, taking responsibility for the review process of all compliance work relating to the client’s affairs. This may involve working with other teams and departments.
- Liaise with the Senior Management Team in connection with the management of your client portfolio and development of tax team members regarding productivity, recovery and billing targets, and training and development.
- Support the development of team members at all levels including mentoring, assisting in training, undertaking personal development reviews and improving performance and efficiency where relevant.
- Provide timely feedback on work and performance matters.
- Develop new client relationships and assist in business development opportunities generally.
- Be competent in all levels of personal tax and identify and provide planning opportunities to our clients. Providing an overall holistic approach will likely include working and coordinating with other teams and departments.
- Provide ad hoc advisory services to clients. Areas of work focused on our HNWI and OMB clients may include:
- Residence and domicile matters including for those coming to or leaving the UK and planning for clients regarding changes to the remittance basis and the new long‑term residence regime.
- Trust structuring, including the tax implications and benefits of different structures, both offshore and UK.
- International tax planning for clients with cross‑border interests, including understanding and advising on double taxation treaties and foreign tax credits.
- Estate planning to minimise inheritance tax liabilities and ensure efficient wealth transfer.
- In conjunction with the client’s financial advisers, devise wealth management strategies for the preservation and growth of their wealth.
- Family business advisory, including tax‑efficient extraction, succession planning and governance structures.
- Support the Senior Management Team in developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, as a trusted advisor, and coordinate and deliver the required services.
- Manage the successful delivery of all aspects of the personal tax compliance function for a portfolio of clients.
- Mentor and develop the Private Client Tax team, ensuring high standards of performance and professional growth.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks for clients, ensuring all work is both technically and ethically compliant with professional standards.
- Proven experience in a private client tax managerial role, ideally within a top‑30 professional services firm.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of all tax law and regulations in relation to personal tax compliance, along with a track record in undertaking client advisory work.
- Strong experience in managing client relationships and leading projects.
