The City of Waco SeeksThe City of Waco is seeking an experienced Paralegal I to join our team. This role will assist the City Attorney’s Office by providing their paralegal expertise. The ideal candidate will have 4 years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of Texas.
Minimum QualificationsRequired:
- H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent and 4 years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of Texas.
Preferred:
- Associate’s Degree in a related field or Paralegal Certificate.
- Government legal experience.
Under general supervision, assists lawyers by providing skilled legal administrative functions and paralegal expertise in all services that the City Attorney's Office provides to the City to include, but not be limited to: litigation support, legal research, legal document preparation, support in real estate transactions, organize and manage legal files, and filing documents with applicable court systems.
Essential Functions- Answers and routes incoming phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Greets and assists visitors as needed.
- Performs a variety of professional paralegal duties; researches legal issues and provides litigation support to City Attorney’s Office; prepares and proofs legal documents, contracts, briefs, petitions, motions, and affidavits; gathers information for prosecution and litigation; coordinates review and resolution of legal issues.
- Under supervision of the City Attorney or other attorneys in the office: assists in reviewing contracts, bids, and Request for Proposals for legal and purchasing compliance; develops drafts of resolutions, ordinances, and proposed legislation; advises attorneys of legal timetables and deadlines; examines legal documents, verifies accuracy and completeness, maintains and updates complex case files.
- Assists attorneys with calendaring meetings and taking minutes of such meetings, discusses and analyzes legal issues with attorneys regarding such meetings.
- Organizes and maintains legal files and documents; adheres to office processes and procedures, and suggests updates to such for efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information
