SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Penn State Health Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) fellowship is a postgraduate transition-to-practice training program for physician assistants and acute care nurse practitioners interested in a Critical Care APP career. The 12‑month program includes clinical rotations through Penn State Health’s adult Critical Care Units and additional time with Nephrology, Palliative Care, and Infectious Disease services. Fellows will work an average of 40 clinical hours per week and dedicate 10‑12 hours to didactic sessions, simulation lab training, online modules, case conferences, and journal clubs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Graduate of a nationally approved Physician Assistant or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • National board certification required for both NPs and PAs prior to the start of the fellowship.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
FELLOWSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
  • Dedicate up to 50 hours per week to fellowship training (clinical rotation, learning activities, didactic sessions, simulations).
  • Work the clinical schedule outlined by mentors.
  • Schedules will include days, evenings, nights, weekends, but no holidays.
APPLICATION MATERIALS: Submit a personal narrative (professional goals, interest in Critical Care – double spaced, 12‑font, max 3 pages), CV with critical care experience, and three letters of recommendation (one from a current program director or clinical faculty; if >2 years since graduation, one from a recent supervising physician or APP colleague).
