Software Engineer - Process Automation; RPA​/BPMN​/SQL

Job Title: Software Engineer - 10+years experience

Location: Herndon, VA (Hybrid in office at least 4 days per week)

Type: 6+ Month Contract to Hire

Rate: $Open /hr.

• Process Mapping and Analysis:
  Observe a manual task, deconstruct into fundamental steps using Value Stream Mapping, BPMN, and flowcharts.
• Root Cause Analysis:
  Use 5 Whys or Fishbone Diagrams to identify underlying reasons for each step, distinguishing value-added activities from waste.
• Requirements Engineering:
  Translate observations into clear, measurable, and unambiguous requirements for the automation team, writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional/non‑functional specifications.
• Data-Driven Decision Making:
  Collect and analyze process data (cycle times, error rates, volumes) to build a business case for automation and establish baseline success metrics.

• Understanding of Automation Technologies:
  Solid grasp of what can be achieved with RPA, APIs, scripts, and workflow automation tools.
• Systems Thinking:
  See how the manual process interacts with upstream/downstream systems, data inputs/outputs, and integration into existing IT ecosystem.
• Basic Database and API Knowledge:
  Foundational understanding of SQL data storage and API communication to accurately define data-related requirements.
