Primary Responsibilities
  • Assesses patients pre‑operatively, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and identifying potential risks
  • Prepares patients for surgery, including educating them about procedures and post‑operative care
  • Receives and conducts comprehensive assessments of patients transferring from the operating room and assesses their post‑anesthesia condition
  • Monitors patients post‑operatively for complications and manages pain and recovery
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients in the perioperative setting
  • Observes and documents patient conditions, treatments, and significant incidents and responses to anesthesia and treatments, notifying the care team of significant changes or adverse reactions
  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal, assesses patient condition and responds appropriately
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations utilizing pre/post‑op nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Accurately documents patient assessments, interventions, and recovery progress in medical records
  • Develops and delivers individualized patient and family education plans, including detailed discharge instructions and recovery guidelines
  • Collaborates with the surgical team and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive pre and post‑operative care
  • Participates in patient handoff communications to ensure continuity of care between units and departments
  • Operates and monitors pre and post‑op‑specific equipment, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumps
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
  • One year of recent experience as a Pre/Post‑Op RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • ACLS Certifications
  • PALS certification
  • Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical Abilities – Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50‑100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
  • Interpersonal Skills – Present a positive attitude and professionalism while working with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary)
  • Technical/Motor Skills – Grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and ability to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
  • Mental Requirements – Coping with frequent contact with the general public, customers, meeting deadlines under pressure, working under close supervision occasionally or independently, managing irregular activities and maintaining concentration to detail
