Responsibilities

  • Take regulatory and non-regulatory samples in line with approved procedures and timescales.
  • Deliver agreed sampling and monitoring programmes, working closely with Sampling Coordinators.
  • Complete all documentation accurately and in compliance with ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Maintain, clean, calibrate and correctly use all sampling and field test equipment in line with regulatory standards.
  • Support the achievement and maintenance of ISO 17025 accreditation for potable and OSM sampling.
  • Identify, escalate and report site issues, missed samples, and sampling failures, participating in daily debriefs as required.
  • Provide specialist sampling support during incidents, including emergency or terrorist attack response situations.
  • Support investigations to ensure regulatory compliance and protection of Welsh Water assets and reputation.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the Performance Scorecard, Business Plan priorities, and the implications of sample failures.
  • Deal professionally and knowledgeably with customers, stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Ensure vehicles are road‑worthy and maintained, and work safely at all times in accordance with procedures.
  • Participate in audits, meetings, standby arrangements, and weekend/evening sampling rotas as required.
  • Working arrangements

    This is a Hereford field‑based role and we are therefore seeking candidates local to the Hereford area. A company vehicle is provided for occasional transportation of samples to our Newport lab base.

    Standby and callout rota (additional earnings): out of every 5 weekends you will work 1 full weekend, be on standby for 1 weekend, and have the remaining 3 weekends free.

    Required skills & experience
    • Valid Clean UK driving licence.
    • Ability to travel as job requires.
    • GCSE C grade in English, Mathematics and Science (equivalent relevant experience may be considered).
    • Experience in sampling or drinking water treatment processes and legislation.
    • Experience dealing with customers and members of the public in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
    • Able to take responsibility for own actions whilst working in the field following procedures and guidelines.
