Occupational Therapist

The closing date is 25 January 2026

Due to promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the In Patient Therapies Team at the Stonebow Unit in Hereford.

You will work as part of a dedicated multi‑disciplinary team to provide OT assessment and treatment for a variety of patient mixes from older adults with dementia to functional older adults and working age based on skill set and team need. The OT service utilises the Model of Human Occupation as the first informing evidence base, using standardised assessment tools and evidence‑based intervention plans.

We have a strong team of therapists including Senior OTs, Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy and Psychology.

Within the team, there is a strong emphasis on training, supervision and reflective practice with an expectation for clinical excellence. You will have a passion for working in mental health services, excellent communication and interaction skills and motivation to develop your practice.

This is a full time post, but we would consider applicants looking for part time.

This is a fixed term post due to the time‑limited nature of the project which will end in 18 months. We reserve the right to end this contract sooner with appropriate notice.

If you wish to be considered for a secondment, please gain permission from your Substantive Manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

The Occupational Therapist (OT) will complete formal assessments to:

  • reduce the risk of falls
  • empower patients to maintain skills for meaningful occupation

  • support the MDT in making recommendations for discharge including home environment assessments for which a car and valid driving licence will be required
  • offer both 1:1 and group interventions which focus on occupation for wellbeing and are sensitive to the patient’s cognitive ability
  • liaise with wider Mental Health services within the community, external agencies, families and carers to gather information and support discharge
  • complete accurate records and detailed occupational therapy reports and support training and supervision of assistant staff and students
