As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to our apprenticeship recruitment across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Engineering Apprentice to join our Engineering Team, based at our advanced manufacturing site located in Hereford.

Our apprenticeship programme offers you the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience, where you will combine college‑based learning with on‑the‑job training. You will work alongside experts, on real projects that shape our future, and you will have a mentor who will support you throughout the programme.
Hoursof Work
Monday to Friday - 0800 - 1700 with attendance at college
Key Responsibilities- Support the Engineering teams to ensure maintenance is carried out in line with the schedule and effective corrective action is taken.
- Develop quick and effective responses to breakdowns in more than one area on site, identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns.
- Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
- Follow good engineering standards and hygiene practice for the department.
- Ensure all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety guidelines, highlighting possible areas of improvement to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer.
- Timely reporting of any Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Issues.
- Follow the communicated escalation route for unscheduled plant downtime and minimise downtime by following good engineering practice.
- Demonstrate basic problem‑solving techniques to identify the root cause of issues.
- Numerical and reasoning ability to meet entry level requirements for a technical apprenticeship (Functional skills L2 in Literacy and Numeracy as well as a pass score in the Technical Abilities Test).
- Minimum qualifications:
5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths, English – Essential and a science is desirable. - Practical ability to operate within a FMCG factory.
- Self‑motivated attitude with the ability to multi‑task and thrive in a timeline‑driven environment.
- Interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team.
- Experience in Engineering is desirable.
- Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for the past three years or more prior to starting the course.
