Executive Head Teacher – Edge Schools' Federation

Thank you for your interest in the position of Executive Head Teacher for the Edge Schools' Federation. We are delighted you are considering joining us at this exciting and significant moment in our development. The Edge Schools' Federation is a forward‑looking partnership of schools built on a shared belief in inclusion, aspiration and excellence for every child. Each of our schools is unique in context and character, yet united by a common purpose: to ensure that every pupil thrives academically, socially and emotionally and leaves us fully prepared for the next stage of their education and life.

This is a moment of genuine strategic opportunity. With a new curriculum embedded, a strong staff team in place, and the chance to shape the next phase of growth and sustainability, the incoming Executive Headteacher will be stepping into future‑building mode rather than maintenance mode. Rural schools matter; communities depend on them, and children flourish through them. We are looking for a leader ready to take that purpose forward – boldly.

Church Preen Primary School is a small community school nestled beneath Wenlock Edge in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Small class sizes and mixed year group teaching enable a highly personalised approach to learning, and the fantastic outdoor learning facilities mean we can take learning outside at every opportunity. A significant number of families travel from far afield to Church Preen to take up our Flexi‑School offer, which offers an alternative option to full‑time elective home education.

We also work closely with all of our families to provide a balanced and engaging full‑time education.

Each school has a part‑time Administrator and there is a part‑time Federation Administrator who supports the Executive Headteacher and governing body. Our kitchens are run by Catering Assistants who organise and serve our food provided by Apetito. There are a total of 35 members of staff across the Federation.

Curriculum and Learning

All three schools in the Edge Schools' Federation have two classes – YR/Y1/Y2 and Y3/Y4/Y5/Y6. At Brockton there is also a maintained Nursery for children aged 2‑4 which comes under the YR/Y1/Y2 class teacher jurisdiction, with a full‑time HLTA taking on the role of Nursery lead. Since September 2024 all three schools have followed the same curriculum, with a two‑year rolling programme in KS1 and a four‑year rolling programme in KS2.

The EYFS curriculum is currently being adapted to meet the new requirements of the EYFS statutory framework from September 2025. Curriculum leaders for all areas work across all three Federation schools and planning is shared between all members of the federation teaching staff team.

We are passionate about providing a well‑rounded education that extends beyond the classroom walls. Our outdoor learning initiatives inspire a love of nature and adventure in our pupils, while our after‑school clubs offer a diverse range of activities. We’re proud to actively participate in inter‑school sport and dance competitions, fostering teamwork, discipline and creativity in our pupils. Our schools take great pride in the range and extent of our extended curriculum offer;

we often provide events and activities for pupils at all three schools, sharing workload and costs. Our pupils take part in a range of focused joint activities, including residential visits, which enables them to develop friendships that move through the Y6 transition to local secondary schools.

The governing body is made up of 12 governors. Full meetings are held each term with statutory and managerial committees as required. The budget is managed by the governors and Executive Headteacher and is monitored regularly by the Business Management Committee.
