The Engineer I, Turnaround is a technical position supporting routine maintenance of all equipment within a refinery, reliability efforts, and small capital projects. The position helps ensure correct identification of failure mechanisms, timely technical assessment of repair plans and alternatives, quality of workmanship, development of turnaround scope, and overall availability and reliability of mechanical equipment.

• Contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of mechanical solutions to support safe and reliable operations.
• Assist in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex equipment and systems, ensuring timely and effective repairs.
• Participate on small projects and help develop detailed engineering drawings, test procedures, and specifications to meet performance standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and recommend technical enhancements.
• Conduct root cause analyses, support risk-based inspections, and document best practices to address reliability issues.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with regulatory and company standards, prioritizing safety and quality.
• Invest in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and contribute to a culture of innovation.

• Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:

  • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an Engineering discipline
• 1 or more years of engineering experience in the energy industry

• 3 or more years of experience working as a Mechanical or Maintenance Engineer at a refinery
• Working knowledge of:
  • SAP
  • Equity Engineering Plant Manager
  • PCMS
  • API-RBI Software
  • API 579
  • API 571
  • ASME B31.3
• Proficiency with MS Outlook Suite (Outlook Email, Word, and Excel programs)

This position has a base salary range of $111,600 – $136,400.

The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is a state-of-the-art facility processing renewable feed stocks (waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils) to produce vital transportation fuels, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels for California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The Rodeo facility has been providing energy and improving lives since 1896. The conversion from crude oil to renewable feed stocks was completed in early 2024, enabling the production of lower carbon‑intensity transportation fuels.

The converted facility reduces lifecycle carbon emissions by approximately 65% — the equivalent of taking 1.4 million cars off California roads each year. The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex fuels the future of the next generation of cutting‑edge liquid fuels production and beyond.
