Intermediate fetal monitoring competency

Triage experience

Ability to manage couplet care

Experience circulating in the OR

Unit Specifics

Unit Name: OB – The Birth Center

Number of Beds: 20 LDRPs, 5 OB assessment beds

Patient Ratios:

1:3–4 couplets

1:1 for active labor patients, VBACs, laboring magnesium sulfate, and laboring insulin patients

1:1–2 for triage, early labor, and cervical ripening

Staffing Support:

Unit secretary Monday–Friday

PCT Monday–Friday (0300–1130)

OB scrub tech available 24/7

Equipment: GE fetal monitors, Novii monitors

Documentation Systems: CPN and Meditech

Scheduling Requirements:
Utilizes Timpani scheduling; preferences highly considered

Floating Policy:
No floating

Patient Experience Expectations:
Bedside shift report every shift

Procedures Performed

Vaginal deliveries

External cephalic versions

Cesarean sections

Epidurals

Postpartum tubal ligations

Cerclage removals

Circumcisions

Dress Code

Pink scrubs (shocking pink) – no pale pink or mauve
