Using radiological (X-ray) imaging equipment and standards, the Imaging Technologist – Mammography prepares and performs procedures and tests used to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data under close to moderate supervision. By interviewing and preparing patients with in-depth understanding of the equipment and procedures, this role ensures effective, safe use of this equipment and drives optimal care outcomes.
Responsibilities- Prepares and performs radiological (X-ray) imaging of the breast (mammography).
- Reads and comprehends imaging orders, engaging with the physician when orders are unclear, complex or warrant deeper review. Selects appropriate scanning protocols and imaging parameters using knowledge of human anatomy.
- Interviews patients to understand risk factors that may warrant a more in-depth examination for safety.
- Guides patients, including those who are distressed, through their examination, applying subject matter expertise and cultural competency to explain the exam. Sets expectations and calms the patient for effective imaging.
- Uploads imaging results into Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Records information into Electronic Medical Recordkeeping (EMR) system.
Required
- Graduate of an accredited program in Radiological Science.
- One (1) year of experience working in a clinical imaging role.
- Good understanding of human anatomy - can be established through education or experience.
- Experience reading and interpreting radiology orders.
- Experience working with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred
- Experience performing stereotactic guided breast biopsies and/or contrast enhanced mammography.
- Advanced certification in Mammography (ARRT-M) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Experience working with EPIC EMR.
