Description
The Biology Instructor – Anatomy & Physiology is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in Biology courses, including Anatomy & Physiology I and II, in support of Vance-Granville Community College’s mission to foster student success and academic excellence. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evening instruction, and travel among campuses within the college’s service area. The instructor will demonstrate strong content knowledge, effective and innovative teaching practices, collaboration with colleagues, and a commitment to continuous improvement, assessment, and student-centered learning in a community college environment.

TeleworkingThis position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is possible. Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 2 days per week of telework after the first 9 months of employment in this position.

- Teach Biology courses as assigned, including Anatomy & Physiology I and II, using evidence-based instructional practices appropriate for diverse learners.
- Teach evening (night) classes as a required component of the position to support student access, enrollment needs, and program scheduling demands.
- Deliver high-quality classroom and laboratory instruction utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to promote student engagement, retention, and academic success.
- Travel between VGCC campuses and instructional sites within the college’s service area as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Department Chair and faculty colleagues to support program goals, scheduling, curriculum development, assessment initiatives, and student success efforts.
- Create, maintain, and update course documentation including syllabi, course outlines, lesson plans, assessments, grading rubrics, and instructional materials in alignment with approved curriculum standards.
- Develop, maintain, and update course content within the college’s Learning Management System (LMS), including Moodle and/or Canvas, for seated, hybrid, enhanced, and online course formats.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate class records including attendance, instructional contact hours, academic progress, and grading in accordance with college policies and established deadlines.
- Record attendance and submit grades within required institutional timelines.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students using the LMS and other college-approved communication tools.
- Inform the Department Chair promptly of student concerns or issues, including academic, attendance, behavioral, or safety-related matters.
- Evaluate and grade student work in a timely, fair, and consistent manner.
- Assess student learning outcomes and utilize assessment data to implement data-informed improvements to courses and academic programs.
- Implement innovative teaching strategies and instructional technologies to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications and professional development in online instruction, LMS platforms, instructional technologies, and laboratory safety as required by the college.
