In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Financial Aid Part-Time Office Assistant reports to Director of Financial Aid and will provide support and guidance for prospective and current students concerning the financial aid process.
Application review and interview scheduling may begin prior to the posted closing date. The position may be filled before the closing date; therefore, applicants are encouraged to submit materials as soon as possible for full consideration.
Essential Duties- Provide excellent customer service by welcoming students and answering questions concerning the financial aid application, general information, verification, satisfactory academic progress, and aid eligibility in person and via phone/email.
- Place calls to prospective and current students concerning applying for financial aid, completing the financial aid process, and enrollment services.
- Assist in answering questions and directing the traffic flow of students and visitors to the appropriate financial aid staff member.
- Provide support to students in navigating the financial aid and enrollment process.
- Provide assistance and support to prospective and current students as needed to resolve complex issues while providing high-level customer service to students in person, by telephone, email, text messaging and other media formats.
- Assist students in using the College website to answer general questions, locate forms, complete admission application, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), access MyVGCC and other related sites such as Moodle and VGCC student e-mail account, CFNC, etc.
- Assist with recruitment and outreach events.
- Provide general information to students about the enrollment process including placement testing, submitting transcripts, advising, and new student orientation.
Work with all areas of the College community (students, staff, and faculty) to provide information and cultivate supportive relationships between the divisions.
Qualifications- Completion of one semester of college or related work experience
- Strong customer service skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Completion of 24 hours of college credit[LB1] or Associate’s Degree
- Knowledge of assessments, resources, services, and effective technologies to address students’ needs
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
