Overview
The Dean of Workforce, Health & Public Safety is responsible for the assessment, development, planning, operation, and continuous enhancement of the college’s continuing education adult basic skills, health, and public safety programs. The Dean works collaboratively with other academic departments and with fellow deans to meet institutional objectives and to develop educational and training opportunities for all students and communities. The position reports to the Vice President of Workforce and Community Engagement.
Salary: VGCC considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; and internal peer equity in offer calculations.
Location: This position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson, NC; however, some travel to other counties in the college’s service area is expected.
Teleworking: Consistent with VGCC’s Teleworking Policy, this position is eligible for up to 1 day per week of telework after the first 9f months of employment.

- Developing, articulating, and presenting the vision for the division
- Collaborating with the other divisions of the College, organizations, partners, business, and industry to assess the needs for our service area
- Providing insight and execution of continuing education to curriculum articulation
- Developing strategies that will provide a clear pathway for basic skills students to transition to curriculum
- Overseeing design, development, and implementation of non-credit courses and programs
- Making data-informed decisions that will yield an increase in the number of students served through continuing education and College & Career Readiness / Basic Skills
- Supervising directors, coordinators, and staff in the construction of class schedules; ensuring the academic integrity of all courses and programs
- Supports and maintains authorization to offer CNA I courses under the jurisdiction of the NC Board of Nursing and Department of Health and Human Services
- Support and maintain relationship with other State of North Carolina stakeholders in administering a local Basic Law Enforcement training program
- Support and maintain relationship with prison wardens of the prisons VGCC serves
- Demonstrating budgets and systems that demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility
- Demonstrating professional integrity and ethical leadership on a continual basis
- Developing the division’s action and assessment plan related to the College mission and planning objectives
- Seeking grants and assisting with the preparation of applicants for funds needed to support the division
- Participating in institutional committees and college initiatives
- Recruiting, supervising, and evaluating faculty
- Ensuring non-credit programs are offered across the entire college service area
- Providing insight on Basic Skills programs that will further advance educational opportunities for program participants
- Providing professional development to the unit that fosters an in-depth knowledge of work with adult education population
- Ensuring divisional advisory committee meetings are held annually
- Seeking out technology that will enhance the ability to engage adult student populations
- Advising the Vice President of Workforce and Community Engagement on matters of non-credit coursework enrollment growth, community engagement and marketing
