We're looking for a Payroll Officer to join our Finance team and play a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing across PAYE, CIS and Umbrella workers. This role is ideal for a detail-focused professional who thrives under deadlines, understands UK payroll legislation, and takes pride in delivering a right-first-time service.
Whatyou’ll do
As an essential part of the Payroll team, you’ll:
- Prepare and process weekly PAYE payroll
- Prepare and process weekly CIS and Umbrella payments
- Chase timesheets and payment information to meet strict deadlines
- Process all aspects of payroll, including HMRC starter checklists and P45s
- Check payroll reports to ensure accurate payments
- Administer statutory payments (SMP, SSP, SPP, ShPP, SAP)
- Manage Attachment of Earnings, Court Orders and CSA deductions
- Process holiday pay and maintain accurate records of starters, leavers, rate changes and bank details
- Respond to PAYE and CIS payment queries professionally and efficiently
- Produce weekly and monthly payroll reports for Finance (Excel essential)
- Reconcile HMRC liabilities and payments, including the Apprenticeship Levy
- Maintain payroll filing and documentation
- Support customer audits and ensure full legislative compliance
We’re looking for an experienced payroll professional who brings accuracy, resilience and accountability to the role.
- Experience processing PAYE and CIS payroll
- Strong knowledge of UK PAYE legislation
- Ability to calculate manual tax, NI and pension
- Understanding of Auto Enrolment requirements
- Strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs essential)
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- Confident handling pay queries and liaising with third parties
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict weekly deadlines
- Experience with Umbrella payments
- Knowledge of Select Pay and Dimensions (desirable)
- Knowledge of the Working Rule Agreement for the Construction Industry (desirable)
