Our client, a top‑tier Project Management Consultancy (PMC), is delivering some of the most high‑profile hyperscale data centre projects across Europe. With major multi‑hundred‑megawatt and gigawatt‑scale developments underway in Helsinki, we are now seeking an accomplished Mechanical Lead to spearhead the delivery of world‑class mechanical systems on these mission‑critical mega‑campuses.

The Role

As Mechanical Lead, you will serve as the client's senior authority for all mechanical systems, infrastructure, and engineering delivery across hyperscale data centre construction projects. You will oversee design progression, installation quality, contractor performance, integration with electrical and commissioning teams, and the successful technical delivery of mechanical systems across 150MW, 250MW, and 1GW programmes.

Working from a PMC perspective, you will ensure excellence, reliability, safety, and efficiency across all mechanical aspects of these mission‑critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Lead mechanical systems delivery across hyperscale data centre construction projects from early design to handover.
Oversee mechanical infrastructure including cooling systems, CRAC/CRAH units, air‑handling units, chilled water systems, industrial‑scale heat‑rejection solutions, pumps, piping networks, and associated plant.
Drive design reviews, technical workshops, and interface meetings with design consultants, contractors, and client engineering teams.
Ensure all mechanical installations meet global hyperscale standards for quality, redundancy, maintainability, and performance.
Manage contractor performance, resolving clashes, technical queries, logistical challenges, and sequencing issues.
Maintain alignment between mechanical, electrical, structural, commissioning, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Implement and enforce safety, commissioning, testing, and certification requirements.
Provide expert guidance on mechanical risk, design optimisation, energy efficiency, and system resilience.
Act as the client's trusted senior representative for all mechanical engineering decisions and escalations.

About You

Seasoned mechanical engineer with experience delivering mechanical systems on hyperscale data centres, major industrial plants, or mission‑critical facilities.
Strong understanding of large‑scale cooling infrastructure, chilled water systems, mechanical redundancy design (N+1, N+2, etc.), and mission‑critical MEP delivery.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and interface confidently with contractors, consultants, and client engineering leaders.
Proven track record delivering mechanical works on multi‑MW or mega‑project environments.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Experience working in Northern Europe or the Nordics is beneficial but not essential.
