The roleAs a Thermal Insulator, you’ll help ensure the continued availability and performance of critical defence assets that protect the nation. This is an exciting opportunity to begin or grow a career in defence, aerospace and engineering — a field where your work truly matters. You’ll play a vital role in supporting engineering teams, helping to maintain operational capability across submarines, surface craft and wider estate systems.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Support engineering teams with insulating activities across a range of systems and structures.
- Assist in identifying and rectifying defects, alterations and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all work is delivered safely, following health and safety legislation and Babcock policies.
- Contribute ideas to improve processes and enhance productivity across the department.
- Work collaboratively with team leaders, engineers and wider stakeholders to meet operational targets.
This is a full‑time, onsite role based at Clyde, Faslane, working 36 hours per week (07:00–16:45). Travel for training may be required.
Essential experience of the Thermal Insulator- No previous experience required for this role.
- A genuine interest in engineering or a desire to pursue a trade‑based career.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to high safety standards.
- An interest in undertaking training or an apprenticeship leading to a recognised trade qualification.

You don’t need prior industry knowledge — what matters most is your enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and commitment to completing specialist training we provide. This includes a structured programme requiring travel to Darlington every four weeks for a two‑week block, with all associated costs covered by us. You’ll also need to be comfortable working in confined spaces and ready to take on a role that offers variety, challenge and continuous learning.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
