Division Overview
Montana's Division of Criminal Investigation is a diverse public safety team of professionals who provide a full range of criminal investigative services to state, local, and tribal law enforcement. From homicide investigations to illegal narcotics, criminal records, cybercrime, human trafficking, missing persons, and training and certifying public safety officers, DCI serves as the hub in providing critical law‑enforcement support. Our diverse customer base includes protecting vulnerable populations, managing sexual and violent offender registries, serving as the hub of communication for criminal justice information networks, storing criminal records, conducting investigations, and providing intelligence analysis support for local law enforcement.

Job Overview
This position is a Restitution Officer with the Office of Victim Services. The incumbent implements aspects of the Crime Victim Compensation program, including collecting and processing restitution payments from compensation claims, representing the Division in contested claim hearings, and performing various analysis functions related to the program. Responsibilities include monitoring restitution tracking and collection systems; representing the Crime Victim Compensation Program and defending eligibility determination decisions in court;
analyzing legal documentation; negotiating and monitoring collections of restitution; researching complaints of non‑payment; maintaining contact with district judges, clerks of court, and other justice‑system personnel; recommending statutory and administrative rule changes; presenting training sessions to community groups, law‑enforcement agencies, and victim associations; and representing the bureau in explaining and answering questions about compensation/restitution program laws, rules, and regulations. The position also involves researching, examining, and correctly interpreting legal and criminal‑justice information, supporting documentation, and determining correct disbursement of restitution payments.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of job‑related experience
- Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted
