Overview
The Montana Emergency Communications Program oversees two statewide communications systems essential for emergency response. These systems are the Astro P25 radio communications network, as well as the Next Generation 9-1-1 network, which is in the beginning stages of development. While these are separate projects, their core objectives and technologies align closely. In addition to managing these systems, MTEC also provides quarterly financial distributions and grants to local and tribal governments and monitors the funding expenditures to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
The Central Services Division (CSD) team works in partnership with agency divisions providing coaching on human resource policies and procedures, financial management and adherence to fiscal responsibility. We value and respect our fellow team members across the Montana Department of Justice.
Job OverviewThe Project Management Specialist serves as a Project Manager (PM) that supports various projects for the Montana Emergency Communications Program. The position plans, develops, and leads major communication projects supporting public safety. The position works alongside various vendors to plan, implement, and maintain critical radio and 911 systems by assisting the management team by managing scope, budgets and stakeholder engagement. Key tasks include stakeholder coordination, risk management, resource allocation, documentation, and ensuring seamless transitions to emerging technology.
The position may give presentations on project status before stakeholder meetings. The position is responsible for lifecycle management of projects, which includes all phases from initiation, planning, execution, to project closeout. The PM is expected to serve as a liaison with various stakeholders such as PSAP personnel, law enforcement and first responder entities, state and local IT personnel, consultants, and various vendors.
The primary goal of the PM is to ensure the reliability and modernization of public safety communications, such as Next Generation 911 (NG911) systems as well as radio systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, project management, or related field.
- Four years of experience managing projects.
- Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.
