The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Human and Community Services Division / Public Assistance Bureau.
The Management Evaluation (ME) Specialist position reviews Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) case files to ensure correct application of policy through a systematic process of monitoring and assessing program operations. The ME Specialist measures compliance with provisions of state and federal regulations and provides a basis for management units, within the Public Assistance Bureau, to improve and strengthen program operations by identifying and correcting deficiencies.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity- Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations regarding SNAP, TANF, and Healthcare coverage programs.
- Knowledge of public assistance eligibility and/or compliance determination rules and procedures.
- Knowledge of effective customer service methods and techniques, excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Attention to details, time management, and multitasking skills, ability to adapt to a changing environment and prioritize workload.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, explaining regulations and program benefits in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to recognize and analyze information and evaluate results to solve complex issues.
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
- Ability to operate various computer software applications and office equipment and navigate or troubleshoot through new computer systems.
- Ability to assist individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to operate personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, business, or related field.
- Two years of experience with eligibility policies and procedures including experience with SNAP, TANF, and health coverage.
- Other combinations of related education/experience may be considered.

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
