Tax Examiner 1 – Business Tax Unit )

Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility.
Conduct technical examinations on assigned tax returns, including research, data verification, and return adjustment.
Provide timely, accurate customer service to taxpayers and representatives.
Assist with development of audit programs, draft summary reports, and testify as an expert witness.
Support other examiners and department programs; no supervisory role.
Knowledge & Skills- Auditing standards, principles, and practices.
- Financial analysis.
- Investigative methods and procedures.
- State and federal tax laws, rules, and regulations.
- Business practices.
- Computer applications—tax and finance;
Microsoft programs; database applications. - Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or public administration; college coursework in accounting or closely related field.
- One year of job‑related work experience in auditing, tax examination, or accounting practices.
- Self‑motivated, strong work ethic; follows instructions; provides timely, accurate customer service; works under pressure; open‑minded.
This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite within Montana. Employees must meet telework eligibility requirements and supervisor approval.
