The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a part‑time UXO Technician II based in Helena, MT.
Position SummaryThe selected candidate will meet the criteria for and perform the functions of a UXO‑TII at various project sites. Other responsibilities include:
- Store explosive materials in accordance with applicable guidance, including preparing on‑site holding areas to temporarily store and secure MEC or MPPEH and other explosives (e.g., donor charges).
- Determine, using a variety of techniques (e.g., global positioning equipment, land navigation techniques), and record the location of subsurface anomalies, surface MEC, and other material of interest in a field environment.
- Perform field collection and testing procedures to identify explosives contaminated media or material (e.g., equipment used for the load‑assemble‑pack of military munitions).
- Inspect and document the explosives safety status of MPPEH.
- Supervise, as required, SWs, SP, and UXO‑TIs.

- Perform reconnaissance and classification of UXO. Identifies U.S. and foreign‑guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuzes, projectiles and projectile fuzes, grenades and grenade fuzes, rockets and rocket fuzes, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnics, military explosives, and demolition materials.
- Locate subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers. Specific tasks include but may not be limited to:
- Perform excavation procedures on buried UXO by manual means and/or mechanical means.
- Perform operator maintenance of military and/or civilian magnetometers.
- Locate surface UXO using visual means. Operates motor vehicle transporting UXO.
- Prepare an on‑site safe holding area for UXO.
- Perform storage of UXO and demolition materials.
- Prepare a UXO disposal site.
- Prepare non‑electric firing systems for UXO disposal operations, electric firing systems for UXO disposal operations, and detonating cord firing systems.
- Dispose of UXO and explosives by burning or detonation.
- Operate a personnel decontamination station.
- Don and doff appropriate PPE in contaminated areas.
- Inspect salvage UXO‑related material. Specific tasks include but may not be limited to:
- Erect UXO‑related protective works.
- Determine a magnetic azimuth using a lensatic compass.
- Perform field expedient identification procedures to identify explosive‑contaminated soil.
- Perform emergency leak seal and packaging of chemical warfare material.
- Use radiographic (x‑ray) equipment.

Required QualificationsHigh School diploma (bachelor’s degree preferred).
Minimum of 6 years of Military EOD and/or Civilian UXO experience.
Experience using DGPS Survey equipment.
Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word.
Team‑focused mentality.
Must meet the minimum Qualifications set forth for a UXOTII in accordance with the current Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board (DDESB) Technical Paper (TP)-18 Minimum Qualifications for Personnel Conducting MEC related activities.
Driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
