Job Description - Transportation Planner - EMS / Highway Safety Program Manager )
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Transportation Planner – EMS/Highway Safety Program Manager. This position serves as MDT’s Emergency Medical Services Grant Manager, the backup for the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Analysis, and Traffic Records Contract Manager. It works with state and local highway partners and performs data analysis. The role supports other areas of the Behavioral Safety Strategy & Coordination Section with high priority efforts to reduce highway traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
This position reports to the BSSCS Supervisor and does not supervise others. It is part of a career ladder with potential career advancement opportunities.

Responsibilities- Serve as MDT’s Emergency Medical Services Grant Manager.
- Provide backup support for FARS analysis.
- Manage Traffic Records contracts.
- Collaborate with state and local highway partners and perform data analysis.
- Support high-priority behavioral safety initiatives to reduce highway fatalities and serious injuries.
- Report to the Behavioral Safety Strategy & Coordination Section Supervisor; no direct supervision of staff.
- Participate in a career ladder with opportunities for advancement.
- Associate’s degree in Planning, Business or related field, and 2 years of related work experience, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Planning, Business Administration, or related field, and 1 year of directly related experience, or
- Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered (e.g., 4 or 5 years of related experience).
- Proficient in Excel and able to use data for analysis.
- Ability to work with a variety of external stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate and present information to various groups.
- A resume detailing qualifications and work history.

Salary: $33.86 - $35.72 hourly. Telework eligibility:
