**** QUALIFICATIONS**- Member of active medical staff at Hospital for Special Care - required.

- Board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation - required.
** JOB SUMMARY**- To provide physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) patient care; to provide PM&R leadership and to coordinate rehabilitation team care, to participate in administrative and quality assurance functions as requested.
** PHYSICAL DEMANDS**- Job physically demands sitting, generally 2-4 hours per day, standing, with or without rests 6-8 hours a day and lifting to various degrees 1-10 lbs. frequently, 11-50 lbs occasionally and over 50lbs rarely.
** COGNITIVE DEMANDS**- Job involves significant amount of time problem solving regarding diagnosis and decision making for treatment plans for patients. Also extensive communication to patient and family along with treatment team and medical colleagues.
** WORK DEMANDS**- Job generally performed inside with room temperature environment at times with significant external stimuli, with frequent exposure to body fluids/blood borne pathogens. Job also involves at times significant psychological stress due to the dealing with very medically complicated and tragically disabled patients.
** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**- Acts as rehabilitation attending physician in direct patient care in the inpatient and outpatient programs through providing initial consultation and clinical reviews. Writes orders for rehabilitation services. Directs the Rehabilitation Team Review and Family Meetings.

- Interacts with medical attending physicians and referring physicians to ensure continuity of medical care.

- Documents rehabilitation progress. Provides active management direction for the person’s rehabilitation program ensuring it is consistent with the person’s predicted outcomes.

- Participates in Physiatry Medicine rotating inpatient coverage as well as chronic care consultative coverage.

- Plans/implements all interventions/interactions with an awareness of cultural, ethnic, religious, language, and age related/developmental needs of each patient.

- Has regular, direct contact with the person, based on the rehabilitation and medical needs of the person served.

- In coordination with the hospital's employee health services staff, provides medical treatment to hospital employees eligible for employee health services through the hospital's employee health services program.

- Participates in medical staff and rehabilitation physician meetings, assists in policy formulation and plans activity to advance the Department of PM&R at Hospital for Special Care.

- Participates in department peer review and quality assurance activities.

- Represents PM&R on selected hospital wide committees.

- Provides high quality education for medical students, residents and geriatric fellows in rehabilitation services.

- Participates in teaching conferences and in services in topics pertaining to PM&R.

- Continues own education in areas pertinent to hospital mission, as documented in credentials file.
