Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Master Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Hayward, California.

Benefits & Compensation
  • Hourly Pay: $51.91 per hour
  • Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained, up to $700
  • Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, weekends off
  • Hours:

    Second Shift 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm

We are looking for a Maintenance Repair Mechanic to work on heavy‑duty vehicles.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or technical certification, post-secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
    • Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
    • Diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems
    • Advanced skilled repairs, including major engine repairs, diesel after-treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs (required)
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
  • All other certifications required by location (required)
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to perform all T3 tasks
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills (PC, Windows, mouse, etc.)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Availability for shift work, weekends, and on‑call duty as required
  • Prefer ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, Electrical, Electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
  • Proficiency operating shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
  • Minimum tool requirement
  • Ability to road test vehicles as necessary
  • Ability to coach, mentor and influence others
Important Note
  • This position requires you to drive Ryder vehicles. To become a Ryder employee you must:
    • Obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
    • Pass a Ryder drug test
    • Pass a DOT physical
    • Pass a Ryder road test
    • Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Responsibilities
  • SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses required by location fleet mix within 365 days
  • Complete instructor‑led OEM courses required to support location fleet mix
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:
    • Standard vehicle maintenance
    • Preventive maintenance
    • Complex repairs with minimal (if any) support
  • Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers/software where applicable
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
  • Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
  • Coach and mentor other level technicians
  • Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
  • Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and available electronic documentation
  • Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Other support duties as required to support operations (eg. Service Island support)
