Position: Transit Vehicle Electronic Technician SEIU (External Only)

Please Note: Applications for this posting will be reviewed in three rounds based on the following schedule:

Pay Rate

SEIU Maintenance Worker III – Hourly rate: $42.72 (Step 76) – $55.84 (Step 99);
External candidates will start at Step 76.

This position is ideal for individuals with strong technical skills who enjoy troubleshooting complex electronic systems and want a stable career supporting one of the nation’s leading transit systems.

Transit Vehicle Electronic Technicians work as part of a skilled maintenance team responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electronic and electro‑mechanical systems on BART revenue vehicles. Under general supervision, technicians perform preventive maintenance, diagnose faults, repair and replace components, and verify system functionality for propulsion, train control, braking, HVAC, communications, door control, lighting, and auxiliary electrical systems. Work often occurs during non‑revenue hours and requires strict adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance; troubleshoot and repair electronic and electro‑mechanical systems; respond to vehicle operating issues in the field; interpret engineering drawings and schematics; use diagnostic test equipment and precision measuring tools; and document all work performed in compliance with established standards.

Qualifications

The most qualified candidates for this position will have highly developed competencies in the following areas, reinforced with related work experience and clearly articulated during the selection process:

Selection Process

This is a SEIU Local 1021 Bargaining unit position. However, all SEIU members must follow the “Bid Form Process.” Failure to comply will invalidate an employee’s application. The Talent Acquisition Division will screen bids/applications/resumes against the minimum qualifications. Qualified candidates will be referred to the hiring department for further consideration. The selection process may involve a skills/performance test, a written exam, and/or a panel interview.
