Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational
  • Observe all store rules and company policies.
  • Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations as well as state, county, and local weight and measure laws.
  • Package, weigh and price all products processed in the department; follow approved procedures for weighing, wrapping, price marking, and restocking cases to ensure quality, accuracy, and product rotation.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Keep perishable merchandise rotated in accordance with department policy and product code dates; pull all out‑of‑code merchandise and follow FIFO rules.
  • Perform any other work‑related duties as assigned.
Leadership
  • Greet all customers and maintain good customer relations by providing prompt and courteous service and assistance.
  • Assist customers with slicing, cutting, weighing, packaging, and labeling merchandise.
Safety
  • Use and maintain equipment in good working order; immediately advise the store director or key person in charge of any maintenance or equipment problems.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures; read all Safety Committee bulletins.
Qualifications Skills Required
  • Ability to hear, speak, and understand spoken English to respond promptly to pages, accommodate customer verbal requests, answer telephones, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand English to read and follow written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Full knowledge of the various cuts and types of meat products sold, including recommended uses, cooking methods, and store/department procedures.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
  • Regularly sit, stand, and use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
  • Good close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Lift up to 70 pounds (cartons of poultry, cases of meat, deli merchandise), climb ladders, sweep and mop floors, and carry trash containers.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and have dexterity to disassemble, clean, and adjust meat department equipment.
  • Work in environments with fresh fruits, vegetables, and latex gloves without negative allergic reactions.
  • Work in refrigerated cutting rooms and storage areas with high humidity and occasional work in frozen storage at temperatures as low as 20°F below zero.
  • Work on wet and slippery surfaces.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels, especially near refrigeration equipment or power tools.
Education/Experience
  • High school education preferred but not required.
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship or training program, or equivalent education and experience.
