Cashier - Store Part Time

Northgate Market, established 1980, is a family‑owned supermarket located in Anaheim, CA, with a growing presence across four counties. We offer a full‑service experience including a large meat department, bakery, tortilleria, prepared foods, and a substantial selection of domestic and imported Latin American groceries to provide a authentic Mexican homeland experience. • Greet all customers and provide prompt, courteous service.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
• Maintain responsibility for the cash drawer at start and end of shift.
• Accountable for cashier discrepancies (over/shorts).
• Scan or record customer purchases efficiently and accurately.
• Be knowledgeable and able to differentiate between produce and merchandise.
• Assist customers with bulk products they may struggle to handle.
• Collect cash or checks and provide accurate change in accordance with company policies.
• Process all sale types (Accounts Receivable, EFT, WIC, Food Stamps, manufacturer coupons, gift certificates, etc.) in strict compliance with have policies.
• Bag or package merchandise per company procedures.
• Handle damaged or spoiled products and return‑to‑stocks as per policy.
• Ring all sales into the POS system following cash handling procedures.
• Verify customer IDs and enforce check and alcohol sale policies.
• Notify management of any irregularities or discrepancies exceeding $5.00 or the established level.
• Record price discrepancies and request price checks promptly.
• Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with policy and health regulations.
• Assist in keeping checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and organized.
• Use and maintain equipment, reporting problems immediately.
• Adhere to cash register policies regarding excess cash and pickups.
• Observe security standards, reporting abnormal behavior to manager or security.
• Secure the register at all times when unattended.
• Notify department manager of personnel or policy violations affecting store performance.
• Perform any other work‑related duties as assigned.

• Assist in training associates and co-workers when directed.
• Maintain good communication within the department and across the organization.

• Comply with safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain a neat, well‑groomed personal appearance and observe dress regulations.

• High school education preferred with completion of an apprenticeship/training program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, percentages, ratios, and apply basic algebraic concepts for sales transactions and tendering change.
• Accurate completion of daily sales reports, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation audit forms.
• Strong oral communication skills for responding to page requests, verbal customer inquiries, and telephone calls.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, analyzing, interpreting, and understanding English language instructions for equipment, policies, and procedures.

• Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
• Occasional lifting or carrying of up to 50 pounds of boxes.
• Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus for reading identification cards and documents.
• Must be able to climb ladders, sweep floors, dust shelves, and lift trash containers to outside bins.
• Fast response to emergencies such as spills, theft, or customer accidents.
• Capability to work with fresh produce without allergic reactions.
• Tolerance to moderate dust and cleaning agent fumes.
• Memory retention for weekly ad prices and daily specials.
• Periodic exposure to temperatures as low as 20°F below zero and high temperatures in ovens.
