Overview
Job Summary
:
Full-Time (1.0) AM Shift / Every other weekend. Approximate pay range: $27.45 - $32.77. Under general supervision, the Transporter is responsible for transporting patients within the hospital in a timely manner.
- Transports patients from various departments within the hospital as requested, according to the designated method, in a timely manner.
- Transports patients to treatment units using wheelchairs and gurneys, or assists them to walk.
- Cares for the personal needs and comfort of the patient.
- Maintains simple written records. May transport patient charts to accompany the patient when required.
- Notifies the department concerned if a patient cannot be transported or if transport must be rescheduled.
- Demonstrates competence in the care of pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients (when assigned to scheduling these patients) with regard to age-related and other physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs and carrying out patient care activities.
- Assists Nursing Services in providing patient care related to transportation functions.
- Reports any transportation equipment requiring maintenance or repair to the Manager.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Manager, Charge Nurse, or Team Leader.
- Additional Service-Specific Responsibilities:
- Diagnostic Imaging – Verifies doctor s orders on outpatient requests and provides information on Radiology and Imaging procedures; processes paperwork/receiving requests; logs patients; issues new folders and distributes paperwork to the appropriate area.
- Emergency Services – Maintains appropriate levels of supplies in the Emergency Department supply room; basic computer skills regarding Diagnostic Imaging computer systems.
- Education
:
High school graduate or equivalent preferred - License/Certification
:
Current BLS required; completion of a training program in orderly/nurse aide responsibilities preferred. Proof of all license and certification is required at time of hire. - Experience
:
Minimum one-year hospital experience, preferred. - Skills
:
Demonstrates verbal ability to communicate with patients and coworkers and understand written and verbal instructions from Supervisor; basic computer skills. - Additional Service Specific Physical Requirements
: - Critical Care Service – Visual acuity details; must be able to communicate verbally; high noise levels in some areas; must hear equipment alarms and pages.
- Emergency Service – Visual acuity details; must be able to communicate verbally; high noise levels in some areas; must hear equipment alarms and pages.
- Hazards – Close contact with patients; potential exposure to blood and body fluids; infection; fit testing for particulate respirator.
- Occasional exposure to radiation (X-Ray).
- Critical Care Services – Works with electrical equipment.
- Emergency Services – Works with electrical equipment.
- No referrals or candidates accepted from recruiters or agencies.
