Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Failure to submit the Application or Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing.

APPLICATIONS AND SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED ONLINE.

The Alameda County Community Development Agency's mission is to enhance the quality of life of Alameda County residents and plan for the future well-being of the County's diverse communities; to balance the physical, economic and social needs of County residents through land use planning, environmental management, neighborhood improvement, and community development, and to promote and protect agriculture, the environment, economic vitality and human health.

The Position

Under supervision, performs various program support functions which do not require a license in the Agriculture/Weights and Measures Department, such as routine placement and inspection of insect detection traps, assistance with pest management functions, and the inspection of commercial scales, retail motor fuel devices and undercover test purchases.

Minimum Qualifications

EITHER I:

  • Experience:

    the equivalent of six months’ full-time experience with private or public agency in agricultural, biologist or agricultural pest detection work.

OR II:

  • Education:

    satisfactory completion of three courses in either agricultural or biological science at the college level.
  • License: possession of a valid California Vehicle Operator’s License.

NOTE:

The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualification in announcement of an examination.

Knowledge and Skills

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

  • Knowledge of biology of target pests, basic host plant and insect identification, and basic operation of scales and metering devices.

Ability to:

  • Keep accurate records.
  • Drive safely and skillfully.
  • Create, read and utilize simple diagrams and maps effectively.
  • Work independently with minimum or remote supervision.
  • Read and follow instructions.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Interact effectively with County employees and members of the public.
  • Solve simple mathematic problems.
Examination Components

The examination will consist of the following steps:

  • A review of the applicants’ application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
  • An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate’s final examination score. The oral examination may contain situational exercises.

CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE CHANGES TO THE ANNOUNCED EXAMINATION COMPONENTS.

Recruitment and Selection Plan

The County will inform applicants, via email and with reasonable notice in advance, of any examination process that will require their attendance. The following dates are tentative and subject to change based on operational needs.
