The Career Guide is responsible for illuminating career opportunities to youth and community members in Alameda County, supporting them as they navigate through entry steps, including enrolling in coursework, pre‑apprenticeships, and apprenticeships, and providing guidance to support sustained employment. This role shifts away from individual navigation and aims to make entry into careers a supported, collective, and positive experience, improving counseling supports for the 60%+ students who do not attend 4‑year college directly after high school.
Location313 W. Winton Ave, Hayward, CA 94544 – supports students at Berkeley, Emeryville & Oakland High Schools.
Typical Duties- Provide intensive, ongoing one‑on‑one and small group postsecondary advising to targeted high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates.
- Assist young adults in applying and registering for a broad range of postsecondary training programs and jobs.
- Maintain open lines of communication with parents, enlisting their support for the career plans.
- Provide tutoring or help youth obtain supplemental academic support for skills tests.
- Write letters of recommendation for youth when needed.
- Assist youth in planning steps required for informed career decisions, including visits to colleges, programs, workplaces and conducting informational interviews.
