Shift Pattern:
Double Days
Early: 6:00am - 2:00pm
Late: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
Salary: £37,847.52 - £44,626.18 per annum (DOE)
Shift Allowance: £3,290 per annum
Onboarding: 4-week structured onboarding following successful interview and trial shift
About the Role
The Tool Maker (Tool Technician) plays a critical role in supporting aerospace manufacturing and MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) operations. You will ensure the availability, accuracy, and reliability of all tooling, jigs, and fixtures, supporting both production and development of aircraft components.
This role involves hands-on manufacture, servicing, and repair of high-precision tooling, support to prototype development, and contribution to continuous tooling and process improvements, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manufacture, service, and repair a wide range of tools, jigs, and fixtures for aerospace production and new product development
- Operate manual machine tools to fine tolerances, including:
Lathes, Milling machines, Surface grinders, Cylindrical grinders, Horizontal boring machines
- Work from engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions
- Apply precision measurement techniques using appropriate measuring instruments
- Maintain, modify, and improve existing production tooling and fixtures
- Support prototype assembly and testing through bespoke tooling solutions
- Provide practical input into tooling design, fabrication methods, and process improvements
- Liaise with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues and ensure tool readiness
- Maintain accurate records of tooling activity, including Practical Experience Records (PER) where applicable
- Use basic computer systems for logging, tracking, and documentation (e.g. spreadsheets, databases)
- Take full responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work completed independently or with minimal supervision
Education & Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Fluent in written and spoken English
Experience & Knowledge
- Proficiency in either milling or turning machines (essential)
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Toolroom experience preferred; well-rounded workshop experience essential
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and organisational skills
- Effective communicator and team player, able to work across departments
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and supportive of continuous improvement
- Basic knowledge of welding (Gas, MIG, TIG, Stick) is advantageous

- Strong communication and decision-making skills
- Able to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- High standards of workshop housekeeping and professionalism
