This position is local remote - must reside within a 50 mile radius within one of the office locations:
Hayden/Coeur d'Alene Idaho, Lewiston Idaho, Meridian/Boise Idaho, Spokane Washington, or Tri-Cities Washington (Richland, Kennewick, Pasco). Travel to customer sites within the region as required.
Compensation: base salary up to $180,000/yr + a department performance bonus. A company car or monthly car allowance is also provided for this role.
OverviewThe Engineering Services Director is responsible for the strategic direction, oversight of the day-to-day operations of the engineering department, networking, and business development activities to continually grow the client base, motivating staff to deliver high-quality services to clients, and managing office budgets and financial performance. Additionally, the Engineering Services Director will provide leadership and cultivate a healthy work environment that adheres to company core values.
This position is an exempt salaried position that reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
- Supervise Department (Engineering) Managers and mentor engineering staff.
- Cultivate a strong working relationship with clients by delivering high-quality services.
- Demonstrate and model a commitment to company's values in the workplace and provide leadership and encouragement to staff.
- Initiate team-building events and activities to build morale.
- Promote the development of direct reports through performance evaluations and coaching conversations.
- Review and approve timesheets for accuracy daily, with weekly approval by 10:00 AM each Monday.
- Coordinate with Human Resources in recruitment, hiring, terminations, benefits, annual performance reviews, disciplinary actions, wage analysis, employee morale, job descriptions, and other duties as defined by the COO and Human Resources.
- Oversee the review of proposals, contracts, and projects to reduce liability to the company.
- Facilitate expectations and prepare negotiations of project contracts.
- Oversee Work-In-Progress (WIP) for the engineering departments company wide to ensure accurate and timely invoicing.
- Monitor progress of projects with assigned staff and clients and manage communication throughout duration of projects.
- Oversee profitability of projects, costs, and employee management in a prudent and financially responsible manner.
- Ensure all projects are invoiced timely and accurately.
- Maintain and develop business relationships in the community to strengthen and grow the company. Participate in professional networking groups.
- Affiliate with and subscribe to publications to remain current on industry trends, marketing opportunities, etc.
- Follow up on request for proposal (RFP) notices through industry publications, local newspapers, social media, and internet.
- Coordinate with Area Managers, other Directors and Executive Management to maximize resources, marketing efforts, and efficiencies.
- Ensure the area office is complying with all industry standards and requirements, federal and state laws and other requirements as needed.
- Oversee the management of the overall Accounts Receivable (A/R) for the department and assist with collections as needed.
- Prepare department budgets and review, monitor, and ensure budgets are maintained.
- Manage the overall profitability of the department.
- Budget and manage the department to achieve a cash-basis profit based on company goals and yearly budgets.
- Participate in on-going professional loss prevention education.
- When necessary, review letters, reports, or other written products to ensure conformance with company policies and procedures, industry standards/requirements and all federal and state laws.
- Develop and maintain accreditation programs for the various services lines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Engineering Services Director shall have a technical background in one of the service lines along with a Baccalaureate Degree, or shall have sufficient education, training, and experience in the industry and service lines. In addition, the candidate must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license and demonstrate proven managerial or leadership experience within the engineering field.
Physical Requirements- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive as needed throughout the workday.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent use of computers and typing for extended periods.
- Moderate travel to project sites or other office locations.
- These requirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work will be performed in an office setting, outdoor project sites, and will include travel as required. Outdoor work may include extreme weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain, snow).
- Must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
