Full Stack Software Engineer (Starshield) — Hawthorne, CA

X is building technologies to enable human life on Mars. Starshield leverages Space
X’s Starlink technology and launch capability to support national security efforts. While Starlink is designed for consumer and commercial use, Starshield is designed for government use, with an initial focus on earth observation, communications, and hosted payloads. The Starshield software team is focused on building reliable in-space networks, secure systems, and next-generation sensing and communication software. Our team designs vehicle systems across development phases, builds tools to improve efficiency, and creates software that is secure, reliable, and autonomous. Software engineers own the lifecycle of their work, including development, testing, and operational support.
Responsibilities- Create highly reliable software systems that task remote sensor payloads on hundreds of satellites in low Earth orbit and process the collected information
- Develop immersive earth observation experiences for users in offices or in the field
- See software through from needs assessment to prototyping, development, testing, production rollout, and beyond
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, physics, mathematics, or a STEM discipline; OR 2+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience in lieu of a degree
- Development experience in C# and Type Script, or equivalent full-stack software development experience
- Experience with real-world software applications and projects
- Knowledge of web services and networks
- Experience with AWS or other cloud environments
- Experience with Linux server environments, SSH, scripting, and configuration management
- Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration frameworks
- Experience with Service Workers and IndexedDB
- Experience with Postgre
SQL or high-performance databases - Experience with image data processing and machine learning
- Experience with graphics-intensive web applications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance
- Active clearance may provide opportunity to work on sensitive Space
X missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing - Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Pay range:
Software Engineer/Level I: $ - $ per year
Software Engineer/Level II: $ - $ per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience.
Base salary is part of a total rewards package including potential stock options, bonuses, and other benefits such as medical, vision, dental coverage, 401(k), disability insurance, paid parental leave, and paid vacation/holidays.
