What to Expect
The New Programs Engineering team works at the leading edge of vehicle design and development, working in an iterative environment to study, simulate, build, and prove Tesla's future generation of vehicles. The Software Integration Engineer will interact with many cross‑functional teams from the Design and Vehicle Engineering teams in creating different prototypes for engineering development. This is not a production software role – you will architect, build, and support the vast software and control tools that power our hardware‑focused R&D efforts at the Tesla Design Studio.

The exemplary candidate has a deep desire to ship and maintain high quality software that enables vehicle and automation hardware. They want to lead from the front, be forward‑looking, but also be in the lab. They crave opportunities to implement and tune dynamic control schemes as well as configuration management.
What You'll Do- Create custom, extensible, and at times scrappy software solutions in a wide variety of topics and depths – taking it from concept to implementation to support
- Motor controls selection, bring‑up, and tuning
- Motion platform controls and robotics for dynamic test apparatus
- Rapid behavioural and device integration into vehicle, buck, and test apparatus
- Identify and create tools to reduce human engineering debt
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
- 2+ years of experience in motion control, automotive systems integration, real‑time controls, or factory automation
- Hands‑on technical experience debugging complex subsystems involving multiplexed or networked controllers and software‑controlled electromechanical devices
- Flexibility to work in many contexts, but the main languages you will write in are C/C++, TwinCAT 3, and Python
- Experience developing system‑level and embedded electromechanical systems
- Strong dynamics intuition
- Ability to prioritise and manage time to inform internal and external schedules and define appropriate depth of work
- Understanding of electrical, electronic, and mechatronics system design
- Working knowledge of communication protocols (old, new, peripheral, system) such as RS‑232, Ether
CAT, SPI, I2C - Expertise in Automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) preferred

$105,640 – $234,384/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
