JOB DESCRIPTION

Under direction from the Manager, Supervisor, and/or Lead Landscape Worker, properly operates all equipment and hand tools, performs work on PVC irrigation systems, and performs various landscape functions. Operates all landscape equipment, tools, and machines as required in a safe and appropriate manner, including but not limited to walk‑behind mowers, riding mowers, weed‑whackers, blowers, edgers, power hedge trimmers, chain saws, power pole pruner, etc.

Be part of a team to manage the overall operation, organization, development, renovation, and maintenance of all Nursery Operations.

$21.08/hour (non‑exempt). This is a Union position with 1 opening.

Reports to:

Nursery Manager, Assistant Nursery Manager, Supervisors, and/or Lead Workers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform general labor Landscaping functions in the Nursery Operation.
  • Assist with keeping Landscape materials organized, clean, and orderly while ensuring proper operation for all on‑going Landscape activities.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory for all Landscaping projects, including watering, weeding, and organizing all Landscape materials.
  • With assistance from Plant Health Technician, measure and apply both organic and non‑organic fertilizers and amendments to soils and plants.
  • Maintain professional appearance and operation of uniform, tools, and equipment as assigned for Landscaping activities.
  • Actively participate in training, support, direction, and guidance from Supervisors. Participate in team building activities and projects in the Landscaping department, including working together on multiple‑person projects.
  • Remain knowledgeable in all phases of work under jurisdiction.
  • Report all maintenance and repairs required for equipment to the Supervisors.
  • Operate all Landscape equipment, tools, and machines as required in a safe and appropriate manner, including but not limited to riding mowers, walk‑behind mowers, weed‑whackers, blowers, edgers, powered hedge‑trimmers, chain saws, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Mid‑level position with 3‑5 years of experience in the nursery or landscape industry.
  • Requires following all safety standards for a nursery operation.
  • Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
  • Must be flexible and available to work on weekends and/or holidays depending upon scheduled days of operation and season.
REQUIRED WORK CARDS / CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.
  • The employee is occasionally required to operate objects, tools, or controls.
