Cafeteria Helper - Waimea Elementary at the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education
Roles & Responsibilities- Coordinate and work closely with food service staff to prepare menu items on schedule.
- Review daily production records and secure ingredients, food items, and equipment.
- Prepare fresh produce, simple meal items (toast, rice, cereals), salads, sandwiches, baked goods, and assist with special dietary needs.
- Portion and pack menu items for satellite feeding.
- Set up serving counters, serve students and staff, and replenish supplies as needed.
- Wash kitchen equipment, dish towels, aprons, caps, and other utensils; maintain cleanliness of work areas, serving counters, dining areas, and washrooms.
- Label, store, and dispose leftover foods properly.
- Receive provisions, document product temperature, report discrepancies, and assist with inventory and routine record keeping.
- Supervise student helper(s) assigned to the school kitchen.
- Attend staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions; complete required USDA training hours.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and understand oral and written English, follow instructions, and perform simple arithmetic. These abilities may be proven by high school graduation or related work experience.
SalaryCafeteria Helper, BC-02: $4,368.00 per month (full‑time, includes shortage and school year differentials if applicable).
