Job Description
Under the direction of the Director and the Superintendent, manages the LWCGIS program, Drinking Water Sampling program, Badger Meter and Eye on Water program and performs various projects relating to the utility operations for potable water, R‑1 water and wastewater.
Compensation$70,000/year (Exempt)

Director of Utilities and Utilities Superintendent

- Assist the department as assigned by the Director, Utilities Superintendent, Utilities Operations Supervisor and the Utility Lead in general administrative, operational and financial analysis.
- Collect pertinent information through research, surveys and other resources and perform analysis information using spreadsheet calculations and other software programs.
- Inspect Lanai Water Company and Utilities Department properties to ensure compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations.
- Submit monthly / weekly reports and maintain various records.
- Conduct weekly safety discussion with staff.
- Update GIS program weekly.
- Collect monthly, weekly, quarterly, semi‑annual and annual compliance samples and ship to respective certified laboratories within the state.
- Manage water meter inventory. Collect proposals for water meters and associated parts when replenishment is needed.
- Daily management of Badger Meter System and Eye on Water programs, including meter re‑reads, leak checks, meetings with delinquent accounts and program meters for replacement.
- Maintain water meter boxes at service connections. This includes removing accumulated dirt/debris, removing accumulated water, replacing water meter encoders and meter endpoints.
- Conduct studies and perform special projects as assigned by the Director.
- Respond to emergencies as necessary 24/7 utilizing SCADA system and assist as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Requires 4 years of working experience in the water or wastewater industry.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
- Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
- Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
- Ability to create effective working relationships with people.
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
- Requires ability to work with Badger Meter Company associates to troubleshoot any issue that arises.
- Distribution System Operator license of Grade 2 within 30 months of job acceptance.
- Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and color vision.
