- A Master’s in Library and Information Science, Archives, Museum Studies, Public History, or a closely related field is required. An additional degree (Master’s or PhD) in an academic discipline pertaining to the archival content highly desirable if hired as librarian‑faculty. Foreign equivalent degree from a nationally accredited institution accepted.
- As an educational institution affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints (Church), BYU–Hawaii prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing, as authorized under 41 C.F.R.
- 60‑1.5 (a)(6). To be eligible for employment, applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church’s Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.
- The University Archivist provides leadership for the University Archive, advancing institutional memory and supporting teaching, research, and student learning. This role integrates archival collections into curriculum and scholarship by partnering with faculty across disciplines and collaborating closely with library colleagues to ensure strategic development and access to collections. The Archivist maintains an active presence in Special Collections, oversees student employees, and ensures archival materials are preserved, processed, and accessible in alignment with university priorities.
- If hired as librarian‑faculty with teaching responsibilities, the University Archivist teaches one 3‑credit class per semester (9 credits per academic year) in a subject area of expertise.
- Scholarship and/or librarianship and ongoing professional development, and university service are required.
- BYU‑Hawaii’s primary focus is undergraduate learning and teaching. The individual should be fully committed to the university’s mission ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) and learning framework ().
- Salary range: 80K to 128K, depending on credentials, rank and experience.
- Housing stipend (for librarian‑faculty only).
- A relocation expense package is provided.
- Annually renewable contract eligible for Continuing Faculty Status (BYU‑H equivalent of “tenure‑track”).
- Standard BYU‑Hawaii benefits package for regular full‑time employees.
