Day Camp Director

COMPENSATION: $475 / Weekly

POSITION DURATION: May 16, 2026 - August 1, 2026

This position will be responsible for running Camp Erdman's Day Camp Program. This includes supporting staff and campers through quality of program, periodic evaluations and assistance where needed. The Day Camp Director will be the primary creator of the weekly parent newsletter and will ensure it is sent out in a timely manner. This person should be comfortable educating staff on and enforcing proper boundaries with campers 5-12.

This person should be a self starter and motivated to work hard to continue on the best version of the program possible, lifting up others in the process.

This position has housing provided. A great fit for one of the Day Camp positions is somebody with supervisory experience, multiple years of summer camp experience and great report with former supervisors. The Director must have a thorough understanding of the YMCA’s mission and goals, and a desire to work with children between the ages of 5 and 17. Leadership skills, enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor and self-control are all essential.

The Day Camp Director should have experience in leading and motivating staff.

• Plan and lead age- and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in a classroom or group setting, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
• Interact with children and provide proper supervision at all times.
• Provide careful supervision and guidance to assigned Program Aides; ensure Program Aides under 18 are never left alone to supervise youth.
• Follow all procedures and standards as established by law or the Y.
• Assist with homework and encourage academic progress.
• Conduct ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Serve as a positive role model, demonstrate professional behavior and apply positive youth development approaches to academic and social development.

• Preferences: Bachelor’s Degree, Lifeguard Certification, Bus Driver Certification, Supervisory Experience, Prior Summer Camp Experience, Peer Leadership.
• High Ropes Certification required.
• Experience working with children.
• CPR/AED & First Aid required.
• TB test required.
