organizational relationship

or line of authority: works under the supervision of the building principal for day-to-day operations, the director of special education and the assistant director of special education.

salary: $33,679 to $37,770 annually

summary: provides support for students within the building that may or may not be in a specialized education program.

responsibilities:

• accurately completes all required documentation and data collection daily.
• works with an individual student to reinforce learning of material or skills as described in the iep/treatment plan.
• assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of the individual student, his/her needs, interests, and abilities.
• assists the student throughout the school environment as necessary.
• alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about the individual student.
• maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about the student as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
• participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
• responsible for other general duties as indicated by the director of special education, superintendent/building principal or his/her designee, and policies of the haverhill school committee.

qualifications requirements:

• sixty semester hours of postsecondary work or; an associate degree.
• safety care training required.
• bilingual preferred.
• ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
• ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements.
