Organizational Relationship

Responsible to the Principal in all matters pertaining to the building, and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee.

Qualifications
  • Valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse’s License.
  • Licensed or eligible by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education – Chapter 74 Health Services Cluster - Health Assisting, Grades 9-14.
  • Minimum of three years of industry experience working as a Registered Nurse, at least one year of which was in the provision of nursing services in a level 2 or 4 long term care nursing home.
  • Minimum of one year experience in lesson planning, lesson delivery, student evaluation and remediation in a position such as in-service coordinator or staff educator in a healthcare setting; or completion of a minimum of 24 Board of Registration in Nursing approved continuing education hours in curriculum development, teaching adult learners and student evaluation.
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
  • Experience working in an urban setting (preferred).
  • Experience working with diverse student populations (preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills.

Statement of Duties and Responsibilities

Teaches occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field.

Curriculum
  • Teaches the Vocational Technical Education Framework – Health Assisting and modifies instruction to different learning styles and student backgrounds.
  • Health Assisting Instructor must have a strong understanding of:
    Communication Skills Related to Health Careers, Health and Safety – Demonstrate and follow safety guidelines according to CLIA, CDC, MSDS, and OSHA standards, Communication Skills Related to Health Careers, Growth and Development, Infection Control, Client Care Skills and Physical Assessment, Rehabilitative Nursing, Assist Client with Nutrition and Hydration, Medical Terminology.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Controls the storage, maintenance and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom.
  • Responsible for instructional and general duties as indicated by the Principal of the High School, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designees, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
