About the role

The Senior Engineer – Marine supports the delivery of the MBIF (Main Bulk Infrastructure Fill) scope where it interfaces with the marine elements of the Sizewell C project. This includes overseeing technical compliance, coordinating engineering works linked to coastal, marine, and near‑shore earthworks, and ensuring the safe integration of marine logistics, materials, and construction activities. The role provides technical leadership to site engineers, supports the Project Manager and Works Manager, and acts as the primary engineering point of contact for marine‑related activities within the Enabling & Earthworks Section.

What

you'll be doing

Engineering & Technical Leadership
  • Lead the delivery of engineering activities relating to the marine interface within the MBIF scope.
  • Ensure all works comply with technical specifications, design drawings, ITPs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert technical input on matters involving coastal processes, tidal influences, material deposition, and interface with marine infrastructure.
  • Support preparation and review of method statements, RAMS, temporary works designs, and marine‑related sequencing.
  • Lead coordination of surveys (bathymetric, topographic, monitoring of shoreline changes).
Marine Interface Management
  • Act as the engineering focal point between the Enabling & Earthworks team and marine contractors, marine logistics, harbour authorities, and coastal engineering consultants.
  • Coordinate material movements involving barges, landing areas, marine unloading zones, and near‑shore staging points.
  • Ensure compliance with marine safety regulations, vessel movement protocols, and environmental constraints.
  • Monitor tidal windows, weather conditions, and marine access constraints that impact MBIF delivery.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Oversee testing and inspection regimes for marine‑related fill operations, including placement, compaction, and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage NCRs, technical queries, design change requests, and ensure timely close‑out.
  • Maintain engineering records, as‑built documentation, and quality packs.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear‑regulated documentation standards and traceability requirements.
Planning & Coordination
  • Work with the Project Manager and Works Manager to plan marine‑interface activities, resource requirements, and look‑ahead schedules.
  • Review progress against programme and identify risks, constraints, and opportunities for improved sequencing.
  • Ensure engineering readiness for key MBIF marine milestones.
  • Coordinate geotechnical data, survey results, and marine monitoring information to support design validation.
Who we’re looking for Essential

  • Technical knowledge of marine construction, coastal engineering, or near‑shore earthworks.
  • Proven experience working on bulk earthworks or engineered fill operations.
  • Understanding of UK coastal regulations, CDM requirements, and site safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, especially with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Coastal Engineering.
Desirable
  • Experience on nuclear‑regulated or high‑compliance infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with large‑scale material movements involving marine logistics (barges, landing craft, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SHW Series 600 and geotechnical testing requirements.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
  • Chartered or working toward chartership (ICE, IMarEST, CIWEM).
