Job Summary
Fixed term / secondment vacancy until 31/01/2027 to cover maternity leave. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee applying as a secondment, agreement from your current manager is required prior to application.
Responsibilities- Lead and supervise the Adult Critical Care Unit, ensuring a high level of patient care and correct staffing levels.
- Actively manage patients’ care, oversee planned and unplanned admissions, and provide support to senior sisters in their absence.
- Coach, develop and mentor junior team members, facilitating learning in practice.
- Maintain a calm, professional environment and promote continuous improvement and patient‑centred care.
- Collaborate with a multi‑professional team, contributing to operational management and resource planning.
- Ensure compliance with NMC Code (2015) and other relevant regulations.
- Essential
- Registered Nurse (Part
1) with current NMC registration. - A recognised critical care course at postgraduate diploma level.
- Bronze IQT or equivalent critical care qualification.
- Bachelor degree (or equivalent experience).
- Significant experience in critical care nursing, able to lead a specialist team.
- Sound knowledge of NMC Code (2015) and working in a multi-professional environment.
- Experience running a ward/area/department and mentoring students.
- IT skills and supervisory/management ability.
- Ability to apply reflective practice in clinical settings.
- Registered Nurse (Part
- Desirable
- Recognised management qualification.
- Teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience of coordinating a team and facilitating learning in and from practice.
- Previous leadership and management experience in nursing.
- Awareness of current issues, financial and resource management in nursing.
- Welsh speaker (Level
1) – Welsh language desirable but not mandatory.
English and/or Welsh speakers are welcomed;
Welsh language speaking (Level
1) is desirable. The Health Board offers training to meet Welsh language requirements.
