Main duties of the job
Clinical - The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience in the management of Lymphoma and General Haematology. The successful candidate will develop this subspecialty across the health board and working alongside the generalist consultants.
Inpatients - The appointee will participate in an attending and on-call rota for the Haverfordwest site. At the three peripheral sites, the contribution is consultative to the local medical team.
Outpatients - The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, within Lymphoma and General Haematology. Consideration for other subspecialist workload could be considered, depending on applicant's experience to date.
There is a weekly health board wide MDT and opportunities to join other MDTs from all Wales MDTs.
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
- The appointee is required to be GMC registered on the specialist register or be expected to obtain CCT within 6 months.
- The appointee will contribute to all aspects of the general haematology and haemo-oncology work including participation in departmental meetings and on-call rota.
- 10 Sessions with 20% non-clinical work (SPA) per week within job plan
- Clinics in other hospital sites will be required (virtual clinics are an option).
- The appointee must be someone who can help develop our rural service to ensure excellent patient care

Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings - 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices) dental practices (including four orthodontic) 97 community pharmacies 43 general ophthalmic practices and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers

Person Specification Qualifications Essential- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date
- Or Portfolio Pathway (CESR) or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration
- MRCP and/or FRCPath or other
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
- Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
- Broad based experience in clinical haematology
- Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and participation in CPD
- Competence in general haematology and experience of being on call
- Expertise in lymphoma treatments and management of malignant disease
- Able to apply knowledge
- Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge and experience of communicating bad news
- Meet the requirement of the GMC's Good Medical Practice
- Experience of NHS
- Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service
- Evidence of above average performance
- Membership of the RCP
- Additional clinical qualification(s)
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
- Comprehension of core philosophy and building blocks of Clinical Governance
- Knowledge of risk management
- Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process
- Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence so as to improve clinical outcomes
- Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
- Research Degree
- Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors
- Comprehension of core philosophy and building blocks of Clinical Governance
- Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education
- Training the Trainers experience
- Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS
- Willingness to participate in clinical management
- Evidence of management training
