Position Summary:
The Haverford School is seeking a full‑time Upper School Spanish teacher. Preferred candidates will have an academic background in the discipline and a record of demonstrated success working with young people in education or a related field. They are an enthusiastic individual who has demonstrated a passion for the culture and language of the Spanish‑speaking world and for teaching that builds interest in, enthusiasm for, and mastery of the subject.
In addition, the candidate will have the capacity to contribute to the life of the school in co‑curricular areas, especially coaching and advising students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach four sections of Spanish, ideally at a standard and honors level, as high as Spanish VPrepare course materials, including syllabi, homework assignments, and handoutsMaintain student attendance records, grades, and other required recordsEvaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, assessments, projects, and papersPlan course content, revise curricula, manage course materials, and develop methods of instructionMaintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist studentsParticipate in school evaluation and professional development programsBe fluent in Spanish, including experience studying or working in a Spanish‑speaking environmentAdvise students academically and socially in accordance with the school’s missionCoach at least one athletic team and/or advise an extracurricular activityParticipate in infrequent evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development, or other school activitiesPossesses an understanding of character, culture, and community and the implementation of those principles at independent schoolsOther duties, as assignedMinimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish or a related fieldAt least 3 years of teaching experienceEffective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with students, colleagues, and parentsEnthusiasm for teaching, motivating, coaching, and mentoring high school studentsA role model for studentsAbility to meet classroom, advisory, and extra‑curricular obligations on a consistent scheduleAbility to attend meetings before and after the regular school day schedule, and sometimes in the eveningCommitment to upholding the Essential Qualities and Principles of Community of The Haverford SchoolCommitment to fulfilling the mission of The Haverford School, and an appreciation of single‑sex independent school educationSense of humor, enthusiasm, and high ethical professional standardsDemonstrates cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactionsPhysical Requirements and
